Many students ask for advice about how to improve their English.許多學生詢問關于怎樣提高英語(水平)的建議。
①ask for意為“請求(給予)”，有時也可用ask sb.for。ask for advice意為“詢問建議”。
eg：He often asks for money from his sister.他經常向他姐姐要錢。
②how to improve是“疑問詞＋不定式”結構，作介詞about的賓語。在英語中，疑問代詞what，who，which和疑問副詞where，when，why，how等后面接動詞不定式構成動詞不定式短語，在句中可作主語、賓語、表語等成分。
eg：I don’t know how to improve my English.我不知道怎樣提高我的英語成績。
③improve動詞，意為“改進；改善；提高”，后直接接賓語。

【辨析】smile與laugh
smile與laugh都有笑的意思，smile是指微笑，強調沒有笑出聲音；laugh是指大笑。
eg：He smiled at me.他對我微笑。
The funny story made the children laugh.這個滑稽的故事使孩子們發笑。
