1.salty
salty 形容詞，意為“咸的；含鹽的”，是由名詞salt“鹽，食鹽”加-y構成的形容詞。
e.g.:He didn't have much for dinner because the dishes were too salty.
【拓展】“名詞+-y”構成形容詞：在英語中，很多名詞后加-y可以構成形容詞，如：cloud—cloudy,wind——windy,rain——rainy,sleep——sleepy等。
2.Potato chips were invented by mistake.薯條是無意中被發明的。
by mistake介詞短語，意為“無意中，錯誤地”。mistake還可以構成如下常用短語：make a mistake/make mistakes犯錯誤；mistake ...for...把……錯認成……
e.g.:I took your pen by mistake.
Don't make mistakes any more.
I mistook Lily for Lucy yesterday.
3.The customer was happy in the end.最后顧客高興了。
in the end意為“最后；最終”，相當于at last,finally,其后不接of短語，本短語強調雖然最初……，最后還是產生了一個……的結果。
e.g.:They were out of danger in the end.他們最后脫險了。
He did one experiment after another and in the end he succeeded.他做了一個又一個實驗，最后成功了。
【拓展】①at the end of... 后接地點名詞時，表示“在……盡頭”；后接表示時間的名詞時，表示“在……結束時”。
e.g.:Walk along the street and you'll find the hospital at the end of the street.
We'll have an English test at the end of this week.
②by the end of... 意為“在……以前，到……為止”，常用于將來時態和過去完成時態的句子中。
e.g.:We will finish the work by the end of this year.
