1.require動詞，意為“需要”，相當于need，通常不用于進行時。其用法如下：
①require sth. 需要······
②require sb. to do sth. 要求某人做某事
③require doing sth. ＝require to be done某物需要······(用物作主語，表被動含義)
eg：Plants require watering regularly.＝Plants require to be watered regularly.植物需要定期澆水。
2.effort名詞，意為“力氣；精力”，可引申為“努力”。
eg：Getting a high grade in every subject requires great effort.要想每門功課都得高分需要很大的努力。

amount可數名詞，意為“數量”。
【辨析】an amount of與a number of
①兩者都有“大量的”之意，且兩者前都可以用large，small來修飾。
