1）能直接以數目計算的名詞是可數名詞 (countable nouns)，不能直接以數目計算的名詞是不可數名詞 (uncountable nouns) 。
2）可數名詞前面可以用a或an修飾，表示一個，也可用具體數字或some / many / few / a few / a lot of等修飾。不可數名詞的數量要用“單位詞+of+名詞”表示。
3）可數名詞復數形式的變化遵循以下規則：
一般在詞尾加s，如：apples
以字母s, x, sh, ch結尾的名詞，加es，如：buses
以字母o結尾的有時加es，有時加s，如：tomatoes, photos
以輔音字母加y結尾的名詞，把y變ies，如：families
