【詞匯精講】句中的struggle是名詞,意為“斗爭”。

【句式剖析】
“The more...,the more...”句型常表示“越……就越……”,是一個復合句,其中前面的句子是狀語從句,后面的句子是主句。在“The more...,the more...”句型中,主從句的時態常用一般現在時或一般過去時;若主句的謂語動詞用一般將來時,從句的謂語動詞要用一般現在時表示將來。
The more she learns,the more she wants to learn.
她越學越想學。
The higher the ground is,the thinner the air becomes.
離地面越高,空氣就越稀薄。
The harder you work,the greater progress you will make.你越用功,進步就越大。

限制性定語從句(Ⅱ)
(where,when,why,prep+which/whom)
1.關系副詞引導的定語從句
(1)when指時間,在定語從句中做時間狀語。
I will always remember the day when I was admitted into the university.
我將永遠記得我被大學錄取的那一天。
(2)where指地點,在定語從句中做地點狀語。
I would like to live in a country where there is less air pollution.
我想居住在一個空氣污染少的國家。
The photo was taken at the place where stood the famous statue,a landmark of the city.
照片是在著名雕塑那照的,這是城市地標。
(3)why表示原因,在定語從句中做原因狀語。
The reason why he has had such a success is that he never gives up.
他取得那么大的成功的原因是他從不放棄。
The reason why he failed the exam was that he didn’t study hard.
他考試失敗的原因是他學習不努力。
2.“介詞(短語)+關系代詞”引導的定語從句
“介詞(短語)+關系代詞”也可引導定語從句,在句中做時間、地點和原因狀語,代替相應的關系副詞when,where和why。“介詞(短語)+關系代詞”表示地點時,有時句子需要用完全倒裝形式。
I still remember the day on which (= when) I entered primary school.
我仍然記得我上小學的那一天。
This is the gym in which (=where) they used to work out.
這就是他們過去鍛煉的體育館。
Can you tell me the reason for which (=why) he got angry?
你能告訴我他生氣的原因嗎?
The man to whom I had a talk just now is my friend.
剛才和我談話的那個男人是我的朋友。
注意:在“介詞+關系代詞”引導的定語從句中,介詞的選用可根據下列三方面去考慮:
(1)根據定語從句中謂語動詞的習慣搭配來考慮。
This is the library from which I often borrow.(介詞from依據borrow from這一常見搭配)
這就是我經常借書的圖書館。
Have you met the person to whom I referred yesterday?(介詞to依據refer to而定)
你見到過我昨天提到的那個人嗎?
(2)根據先行詞的習慣搭配或意義來考慮。
The farm on which they worked ten years ago has changed a great deal.(先行詞The farm在從句中做地點狀語,“在農場”常用on the farm,故用on which,相當于where)
十年前他們工作過的那個農場變化很大。
Do you still remember the day on which we visited the Dai Temple?(先行詞the day在從句中做時間狀語,on which相當于when)
你還記得我們一起參觀岱廟的那天嗎?
(3)根據句子的具體含義來考慮。
The pen with which he is writing now was bought yesterday.
他現在寫字用的那支筆是昨天買的。(with which表示“使用工具”)
He made a hole in the wall,through which he could see what was happening outside.
他在墻上鉆了個孔,通過這個孔他可以看到外面所發生的事情。(through which指“通過……”)
