英語動詞有兩種語態, 主動語態和被動語態。主動語態表示主語是動作的執行者,如:
They built a new bridge over the river.
被動語態表示主語是動作的承受者,如:
A new bridge was built over the river.
當主語是動作的執行者時,隨后的動詞用主動態;當主語是動作的承受者時,隨后的動詞用被動態。英語動詞的主動態是沒有標記的，而被動態則是有標記的，通常由助動詞be + 及物動詞的過去分詞構成。
Many people speak English. (主動)
English is spoken by many people. (被動)
We can use the passive voice when
it is obvious who performs the action.
e.g. Word processing skills are taught
in our computer lessons.
(It is obvious that the person who teaches word processing skills is the Computer Studies teacher.)

一、主動語態變為被動語態
把主動語態的賓語變為被動語態的主語,用主格把謂語變為被動結構,注意be 的時態和原句要保持一致。把主動語態的主語放在介詞by后作賓語，將主格變為賓格。
二、被動句變為主動句的步驟:
1) 找到動作的執行者(常為被動句的賓語)作主動句的主語.
2) 找到be+過去分詞結構還原為及物動詞原形.
3) 找到動作的承受者(常為被動句的主語)作主動句的賓語.
4) 確定及物動詞的時態。數(注意)在以上轉換中,代詞作主語用主格, 代詞作賓語用賓格.
